St. Jean D'Arc Credit Union Hannaford's Grocery Stores | Last year we provided $709,000 in value of goods using a budget of $169,500 . For every $1 dollar we spend we deliver $4 worth of goods while keeping all of that furniture out of landfills. $1 spent = $4 value of goods out From January 1 2007 to Dedcember 31, 2007 we helped more than 18,500 clients from more than 100 agencies to get more than $700,000 in value of furniture and baby goods. This year we moved from an all volunteer organization to paid staff of seven and purchased a box truck. We continue to suppor our 13,000 sq ft. warehouse in Lowell, MA. Volunteers ogged more than 5,000 hours processing goods. We are just begining a long process of seeking out land or a building to be able to move into our own building by projected 2013. We continue to increase our hours of operation and to balance volunteer time, donation time and client time. Our large pool of volunteer staff continue to be supportive and productive. This year we have seen a 100% increase in clients handled each month up to an average of 689. Each month an average of 51 families get furniture from us to move from shelters to housing after fire, flood, spousal assault and homeless shelter living. - 85% of the clients helped are women and children
- An average os 72 babies each month are now getting clothes, cribs, diapers and more.
- We now partner with more than 500 caseworkers from 120 social service agencies and programs
- 762 beds provided through our Beds 4 Kids program (171 were sponsored by the public at $80 each which allowed us to finally catch up with demand).
What makes the Wish Project different from other agencies? - We are private and independent with no faith or government affiliation.
- Providing furniture to needy families at the critical time when they move from homelessness to homes, is an integral part of them staying sustainable and out of the system for good.
- Our goal is to provide goods to the region in the same way a Food Bank provides food to a region in the most time and cost efficient way possible.
- Furniture banks greatly reduce the waste in landfills. The best recycling is to put goods back into their original use.
- We provide year round support of goods so that needy clients can stay sustainable once they move out of homelessness (backpacks in September, blankets in October and strollers in the spring).
- Agencies support us with an administrative fee
- We are a grassroots operation
- Our volunteer opportunities on and off site, help connect more than 14 towns to the needy of our Valley all year long
- Our monthly service projects help provide more than $450,000 worth of new goods including: backpacks, slippers, toiletries, cleaning supplies, diapers, newborn baby kits and Easter and Christmas toys, blankets, new underwear etc.
- All clients are prequalified by caseworkers before coming to us so we help the most needy people
We work to supply goods cost efficiently and with deep respect for: overworked caseworkers, busy donor's lives and every client's dignity. |
